Geraldine M. (Shipley) Diulus

September 20, 1938 ~ July 12, 2016 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Geraldine S. "Gerrie" Diulus, 77 of Bridgeville, formerly of Oakland, died peacefully at home Tuesday, July 12th after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease.

Born on September 20, 1938 in Homewood, she was the daughter of Roger M. and Clara S. (White) Shipley.

A 1956 graduate of Westinghouse High School, she soon after became a secretary at Mellon Institute.  Due to her faultless secretarial skills and beautiful handwriting, she quickly rose to position of secretary for General Matthew Ridgway.

Soon after, she met a young handsome man from Oakland.  She and Vite J. "Sonny" Diulus Jr. were married at Corpus Christi Church in Homewood on July 4, 1959. Together they raised their 2 children where they were active at St. Regis Church and school.  She was a lunch lady in the cafeteria and very active in the PTA.  They also were involved members and had many enjoyable times at the San Lorenzo di Gamberale club on Bouquet Street.

When her children were grown, Gerrie returned to the workforce and was employed at the University of Pittsburgh in the Grants and Contracts office.  She was often seen walking to work impeccably dressed, always smiling.  After retirement she and her husband moved to Citrus Hills, Florida for a few years where she enjoyed playing pickleball, crafting and entertaining before returning to the Pittsburgh area.  Gerrie was never short of friends and was always wanting to live life to its fullest.  She had a gentle, loving heart and all who knew her are blessed to call her a friend.

In addition to being a caring wife to Vite, she was a loving a devoted mother to Susan (Charles) Buechele and Gregory (Pamela) Diulus.

She became “Nanny” to 4 granddaughters: Jenna Buechele, Audra (Alexander) Beatty, Abigail and Hannah Diulus.  She never turned down the opportunity to take her granddaughters on an adventure.  Nothing brought her greater pride than spending time with her granddaughters.

She is also survived by 1 brother, George (Margie) Shipley of Odenton, MD as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Gerrie was preceded in death by her parents and 3 infant children- Rodger, Paul and Elizabeth Diulus.

Friends will be received at the John N. Elachko Funeral Home 3447 Dawson St. Pittsburgh, PA 15213 from 1-3 and 7-9 pm on Friday July 15, 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at St. Regis Roman Catholic Church (Oakland) with the Rev. Richard Ulam officiating.

Private entombment to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
