John J. Keener, 86, of Butler died Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the VA in Butler.
Born September 12, 1932 in East Brady, he was the son of Philip L. and Wilda M. (Miliron) Keener.
John attended East Brady High School and studied voice with Michael Dolan in Butler.
A US Army Veteran, John served as a Private First Class during the Korean Conflict. He was a soloist with the Seventh Division Chorus in Korea. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
After returning, John graduated from Manhattan School of Music in New York and performed several recitals in New York and Philadelphia. He was also a member and lead singer with the Fifth Avenue Opera Association.
Surviving is his wife, Bernadette Keener of Butler, 1 sister; Joan Black of Hermitage, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Graveside services for John J. Keener will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 6, 2018 in St. Eusebius Cemetery, East Brady with Rev. William Kuba officiating.
