Joseph O'Hanlon Sr. Obituary

Joseph E. O’Hanlon Sr., 98 of East Brady, formerly of Gibsonia died Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at home with his daughter.

Born February 28, 1921 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Joseph A. and Margaret W. (Grounds) O’Hanlon. 

On August 21, 1944, Joe married the former Dorothy Geisler.  She preceded him in death on May 21, 2009.

At age 11, Joe went to work delivering groceries for Kroeger.  He graduated from Central Catholic High School and began work as a carpenter, building houses for Miller homes-a job he kept through his twenty’s.  Joe then began his career with the Monongahela Connecting Railroad where he retired as the yard master after 41 years. 

A World War II Veteran, Joe served as a Staff Sergeant with the Squadron B 610th Army Air Force Base Unit.  He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theatre Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.  Joe was a member of the American Legion in Wexford and every year looked forward to his Air Force Reunion.

Joe was a long-time member of St. Catherine of Sweden Roman Catholic Church and more recently, a member of St. Patrick Church in Bradys Bend.  He was previously involved with the Knights of Columbus. 

He enjoyed traveling to new destinations; always looking to learn something new.  Joe was a Civil War history buff, enjoyed completing cross word puzzles and word searches, singing karaoke and learning about his Irish Heritage.  He will be remembered for his charitable nature and his loving devotion to his family. 

Joe is survived by 1 daughter; Dorinda D. Aigner and husband Thomas of East Brady, 2 sons; Joseph E. O’Hanlon Jr. and wife Kathleen of Whitaker, PA and Jamey J. O’Hanlon and wife Ginny of East Brady. 

He is also survived by 3 sisters; Eleanor Cunningham of Forest Hills, Margaret “Bunny” Saunders of Shalor, Delores Gigliotti of Butler, 1 brother; Edward O’Hanlon of Pittsburgh, 9 grandchildren; Darcie (Jacob) Bishop, Reagan Aigner, Joseph (Angela) O’Hanlon III, Brady O’Hanlon, Matthew (Emily) O’Hanlon, Colin (Alexandria) O’Hanlon, Brandon (Jada) O’Hanlon, Arynne (Brad) Fretwell, Cara (Steven) Geibel and 20 Great Grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 sisters; Natalie and Adele and 3 brothers; Bernard, William and David.

Friends of Joseph E. O’Hanlon Sr. will be received from 4:00-8:00 PM Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 707 Kellys Way, East Brady, PA 16028.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, April 29, 2019 at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with Rev. John Butler officiating.

Committal, Military Honors and Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s name to St. Patrick Church 915 State Route 68, East Brady, PA 16028.
