James E. Slaugenhoup, 71, of East Brady died Friday December 27, 2013 after a very courageous battle with leukemia.
Born May 21, 1942 in East Brady, he was the son of James M. and Dorothy (Downing) Slaugenhoup. James was a 1960 graduate of East Brady High School. After 7 years of night school, he graduated from Butler County Community College.
Jim served in the US Army from 1960-1966. He was a member of St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church in East Brady, it was there he married Barbara Patsy on April 11, 1964, she survives.
From 1963-1982 he was employed as the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering at Pullman Standard in Butler. From 1982-2004 Jim was employed with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania-Department of Transportation(PennDOT). His career with PennDOT started as District Manager of Butler and then Clarion County. Jim assumed the position of District Maintenance Manager of Indiana County in 1996. During 1999, he became the Assistant District Executive for Maintenance. Jim was the first individual in the state of Pennsylvania to obtain this position without a civil engineering degree. Jim retired from PennDOT on June 30, 2004.
Jim cherished his family, he enjoyed annual trips to the beach, watching and attending sporting events. He could organize, plan and budget any activity or project. He will be greatly missed.
Jim's greatest success was that as a father to his 5 children, James Slaugenhoup and Maria Slaugenhoup of East Brady, Julie (Don) Griffiths of Chicora, Ryan (Gina) Slaugenhoup of Westover, WVa, and Dan (Megan) Slaugenhoup of East Brady.
There is no love greater than the love Jim had for his 3 grandchildren, Kate, Emma and Ty Slaugenhoup.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Karen and 1 brother Roger.
Friends of James E. Slaugenhoup will be received 2-4, 6-8pm Sunday December 29, 2013 at the Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 707 Kellys Way East Brady, PA 16028.
A parish prayer service will be held at 3:30pm Sunday in the Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday December 30, 2013 at St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. William Kuba officiating.
Burial in St. Eusebius cemetery will be private.
