Margaret Jane Dolmovich

After recent visits with many of her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren and a week surrounded by her 4 children and their spouses, Margaret “Jane” Dolmovich passed away on June 16, at the age of 90.  The 4th of 6 children of Eugene and Marjorie Weibel, she was pre-deceased by her husband of 49 years, Robert “Bob” Dolmovich, and 4 brothers – James, John, Daniel and Thomas. She is survived by her sister, Janet Wright, and sisters-in-law, Mary, Dawn, Pat, and Kay.

Jane was born on November 5, 1931, in East Brady, PA, where she grew up skipping stones on the Allegheny River and enjoying the joys of a close-knit small town. She was a secretary in Knox, PA, before marrying and starting her family.  Bob and Jane were high school sweethearts, married in November 1952 and moved often before settling in Manassas, VA, to raise their 4 children – Jyl Pomeroy (John) of Arlington VA, John Robert “Bob” Dolmovich (Karen) of Chattanooga, TN, Pamela Toohey (Rich) of North Potomac, MD and Bruce Dolmovich (Julie) of Jacksonville, FL.  Jane was also blessed when her young children made Pam Moody of Manassas, VA, an honorary sister whose insight and good humor have for over 50 years kept the family humble and laughing. Jane was a deeply devoted mother, practical to a fault, steadfastly frugal but generous of spirit. As a widow, she showed surprising resilience, and became a creative problem solver. Jane was especially proud of her 13 grandchildren – Matthew (Tiffany), Don (Kristie), Marcy (Grant), Greg (Alexa), Mary (Kyle), Ben (Audrey), Anne, Sarah, Grace (fiancé Matthew), Laura, Mark, Rachel and Rose, and loved playing with her 5 great-grandchildren – Tommy, Calista, Virginia, Emma and Karina. 

Jane’s life was enriched immensely when as a girl, she received a letter from Jean, from Coleraine, Northern Ireland, who asked Jane if she might like to be her pen pal.  The two became life-long friends, writing to each other often from their first letter in 1946, throughout their school years, as young working women, as new mothers, as their children grew and their families expanded.  Jane’s eyes were opened to what life was like in a far-away country that was often in the news for domestic strife that couldn’t easily be understood on this side of the Atlantic.  In 1976, Jean and her husband Charlie came to the US for the first time so that the two families could finally get to know each other in person. Jane and Bob later visited Northern Ireland with some of their children, and two generations later, Jane’s and Jean’s children and grandchildren are maintaining these treasured bonds and continue to visit, celebrate family milestones and share in each other’s joys and sorrows.  We are confident that Jean is one of many welcoming Mom home with open arms this week as there are still likely a few things left unsaid between them.  

Jane loved puzzles, ping pong and bingo. She was a talented seamstress and a good cook, her spaghetti sauce and cinnamon rolls were family favorites. Jane loved to visit family and to “get everyone together” so her children are planning a gathering of family and close friends to be held later this summer to share loving memories and make a few new ones. Burial will be next to her beloved husband and other dear family, in East Brady, overlooking the river and town to which she longed to return.

Jane’s family would like to recognize and thank the attentive staff at Great Falls Assisted Living who ensured her last weeks and days were cheerful, filled with music, smiles, visitors, reassuring words and extraordinary loving care. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 18, 2022 at St. Eusebius Catholic Church with Rev. William Kuba, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Eusebius Cemetery.  

To accommodate Jane’s large extended family, a celebration of life gathering is being held in northern Virginia on August 20, near where Jane resided for 30 years of her life.
